C-arouNd: Refining Soil Conservation and Regenerative Practices to Enhance Carbon Sequestration and Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

C-arouNd aims to investigate how short and long-term agricultural management practices affect soil organic matter (SOM) persistence in the soil profile and contribute to inclusion of the effects in national inventories to inform policy to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate global change. C-arouNd also aims to synthesize findings from a worldwide consortium of long-term agricultural field experiments with focus on soil organic matter sequestration and persistence.

    Keywords:

soil carbon persistence, agriculture intensification, sustainable development, nutrients cycling, carbon storage

    Project Summary

    OUR TEAM

Composed of researchers and students from 12 countries and 14 institutions, this international team is collaboratively organizing historical data from Long Term Experiments into a comprehensive, worldwide data repository. This legacy for future scientists will empower them to study and better understand the soil and the world we inhabit, thereby guiding efforts to protect them both.

  • RELEVANCE FOR EACH PARTNER

    Relevance

In Brazil, the actions planned in this proposal are aligned to the development of conservative agricultural practices aimed at reducing GHG emissions and increasing C sequestration which is the core of the National Program on Sectoral Plan for Adapting to Climate Change and Low Carbon Emissions in Agriculture with a view to sustainable development (2020-2030) (Plano ABC+).

  • EJP-C-arouNd | Carbon Dataset

    News & Events I

A cornerstone of this project will be the creation of comprehensive carbon datasets from long-term experiments (LTEs). The team is diligently assembling a vast repository of soil carbon data from 40 LTEs worldwide. Upon project completion, these datasets will be made accessible to the global scientific community to inform the development of public policies that promote environmental sustainability.

  • Next Generation of Scientists Take Center Stage

    News & Events II

Meet Murono Dorca Auma, PhD Student, a talented young scientist from Kenya. With the generous support of the Global Research Alliance through  CLIFF-GRADS Fellowship , she has been immersed in our Brazilian research environment for the past four months. During her time here, Dorca has been honing her skills in advanced techniques for organic matter fractionation. Her dedication and enthusiasm have made a significant contribution to our collaborative research efforts. Diogo Elias, a graduate student from the Federal University of Goiás, assisted her with her work.
