Forest Engineer from the University of Brasilia (1985) and PhD in Genetics (co-major in Forestry Sciences) from North Carolina State University (1994) (Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society - 1992). Research scientist and Project Leader at EMBRAPA Genetic Resources and Biotechnology since 1994. Adjunct Professor at North Carolina State University since 2016 and accredited professor for postgraduate guidance at the University of Brasilia since 1995 and in the postgraduate program in Genomic Sciences and Biotechnology at the Catholic University of Brasília since 2000. He is a founding partner and owner of Heréditas/Genomax Tecnologia em Análise de DNA Ltda. since 1996. His area of #8203;#8203;expertise is centered on plant genetics, breeding and genomic sciences with an emphasis on forest species. Tangentially, he also developed research in the area of #8203;#8203;population genetics of humans and domestic animals. He served as an associate editor of the journal 'Tree Genetics and Genomes' (Springer) from 2005 to 2016 and the journal 'Heredity' (Nature Publishing) from 2017 to 2024; serves as associate editor of 'Genetics and Molecular Biology' (Sociedade Brasileira de Genética) since 2009. He is a consultant for scientific agencies in Brazil (CNPq, FAPESP, FINEP, CAPES) and abroad (US National Science Foundation, USDA Plant Genome Initative, Australian Research Council, Genome Canada, France Genomicque, CGIAR-FAO) and also acts as a consultant at the interface between genomics and genetic improvement for forest-based companies in Brazil and abroad. He was elected a full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences in 2012 and is on the list of the top-cited 100,000 scientists in the world since 2019 (position 61.384 in 2023 in the career-long ranking and 43.671 no single-year ranking ; https://elsevier.digitalcommonsdata.com/datasets/btchxktzyw/6).
