Holds a B.Sc. in Agronomy and an M.Sc. in Plant Breeding from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), and a Ph.D. in Genetics and Plant Breeding from the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA).From 2005 to 2007, he worked as a Scientific Researcher I at the Agronomic Institute of Campinas (IAC), where he was responsible for the castor bean and sunflower breeding programs. During this period, he developed, registered, and protected the castor bean cultivar IAC 2028.Since 2007, he has been a Senior Researcher at Embrapa, leading the Banana and Plantain Breeding Program, focused on developing cultivars resistant to pests and diseases, particularly Fusarium wilt (races 1 and tropical 4) and black Sigatoka, combined with agronomic and sensory traits that meet market demands.He is a tenured professor in the Graduate Program in Plant Genetic Resources at the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB) responsible for the course Special Topics in Plant Genetic Resources and in the Graduate Program in Biotechnology at the State University of Feira de Santana (UEFS) responsible for the course Biotechnology Applied to Plant Breeding. He supervises masters, doctoral, and postdoctoral students.Over 20 years of professional experience, he has published 131 scientific papers in national and international journals, three book chapters, and developed and registered eight banana cultivars (two registered and protected, six registered). He has supervised 30 completed graduate and postdoctoral works and currently advises one masters student, seven Ph.D. candidates, five postdoctoral fellows, and 14 innovation scholarship holders. He is a CNPq Research Productivity Fellow (Level 1C).His expertise includes plant breeding, biotechnology, quantitative genetics, molecular markers, biostatistics, and biometrics. The breeding program under his coordination maintains strong collaboration with the private sector, both nationally and internationally, including cooperative projects funded by institutions in Colombia (Asociación de Bananeros de Colombia Augura / AgroSavia), Costa Rica (Corporación Bananera Nacional Corbana), and Austria (International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA).
