She holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering from the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (1988), a master's degree in Biological Sciences, with emphasis on Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, from the University of Brasília (1993), and a PhD in Sciences, with a focus on Nuclear Energy in Agriculture, from the University of São Paulo (2012). She has been a researcher scientist at Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology since 1997. Her work focuses on Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Plant Biotechnology. Her experience includes plant genetic transformation, somatic embryogenesis, and plant organogenesis for the development of transgenic organisms; apomixis in Brachiaria; improving nutritional quality through folate and omega-3 enrichment in lettuce; reducing ricin in castor bean plants; and virus resistance in papaya and tomato plants using the RNAi strategy. Experience in GMO biosafety, having served as Executive Secretary of CIBio-Cenargen from 2013 to 2016, and as President of CIBio-Cenargen from 2016 to 2018, where subsequently she served as a member until 2023 (10 years). She was also a member of Cenargen's Internal Committee on Laws and Intellectual Property from 2018 to 2020, and has served on Cenargen's Internal Technical Committee (CTI) since August 2023, having been re-elected for a new term.
