Jalusa Deon Kich is a researcher at Embrapa Swine and Poultry (Brazilian Corporation on Agriculture Research) since 2001. Dr. Kich has experience in preventive veterinary medicine, specifically on the epidemiology of Salmonella infection and control in the swine production chain. She is a Veterinarian, Master and Doctor, graduating from the Veterinary Medicine School of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. Dr. Kich attended a sabbatical program at the Food Safety and Enteric Pathogens Research Unit (FSEPRU) at the USDA-National Animal Disease Center in Ames, Iowa, USA in 2011/2012. The research focused on using a systems biology approach to investigate the swine-Salmonella relationship to develop and evaluate interventions and control strategies to provide a safer food supply. At Embrapa Swine and Poultry, Dr. Kich has conducted research projects in cooperation with universities and private companies. Her scientific results and field experience have prompted speaking invitations for Dr. Kich at several meetings as well as technical consultation requests. Dr. Kich is a member of the Agriculture Ministrys scientific advisory committee for animal products microbiology. In 2011, she was awarded the Embrapa Swine and Poultry individual annual award, and in 2012, she received an award for her scientific contribution at the USDA-NADC-FSEPRU.
