He earned a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences (2000) and a Ph.D. in Animal Biology (2004) from the University of Brasília, having completed a post-doctorate at Embrapa (2005-2006). He has been working as a Researcher at Embrapa in the area of Nanobiotechnology since 2006, leading studies focused on evaluating nanostructures using high-resolution tools and developing (synthesizing, characterizing, and validating) nanomaterials, nanosystems, and nanodevices, including metallic, polymeric, and lipidic nanoparticles and liposomes obtained through green synthesis routes; nano-bioreactors; nano-foods; nanobiosensors; nano-forensics; and functional surfaces. More recently, approaches in digital fabrication through additive, subtractive, and transformative manufacturing; 3D biofabrication; 3D food printing, cellular agriculture, space agriculture, and AI are also the focus of research, development, and innovation activities. Several current efforts are directed towards developing innovative and sustainable solutions for controlled environment agriculture. Since 2004, he has been a Collaborating Professor at the University of Brasília, where he teaches graduate courses and advises students in the Graduate Programs (PPG) in Nanoscience and Nanobiotechnology; Biological Sciences; Animal Biology; Microbial Biology; Pharmaceutical Sciences; Health Sciences and Technologies; and Medical Sciences; in addition to being a Collaborating Advisor for the PPG in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Federal University of Paraná. He has published 198 full scientific articles (including 7 review articles) in internationally indexed journals, mostly on frontier topics in nanoscience/nanotechnology and biomolecule chemistry (~4000 citations in ISI, H-index: 35). He has also edited 2 books, published 21 book chapters; filed as inventor 16 product and process patents, many with granted patents; disseminated about 500 communications at local, regional, national, or international scientific events; given dozens of interviews to numerous media outlets; and delivered over a hundred lectures and short courses. For these works, Dr. Luciano collaborated and received collaboration from about 1600 Brazilian and foreign researchers/students from diverse areas such as biology, biomedicine, biotechnology, medicine, engineering, mathematics, agronomy, physics, chemistry, pharmacy, dentistry, computer science, and veterinary medicine, highlighting the multidisciplinary nature of the technical-scientific interactions. Currently, Dr. Luciano coordinates research and development projects. He serves as a member of the editorial board of 15 journals; acted as an ad hoc reviewer for manuscripts for 88 international circulation journals, 11 funding agencies, and 159 examination committees; in addition to advising and supervising individuals at all academic levels, including 176 completed supervisions (4 post-doctorates, 14 Ph.D.s, 26 Master's, 50 scientific initiation students, 9 specialization monographs, 17 undergraduate final projects, 56 other supervisions), plus another 11 ongoing supervisions. Some of his articles are among the most cited and downloaded from journals; had his biography included in collection editions; received several awards including the TWAS ROLAC Young Scientists Prize 2012 in the areas of Medical and Biological Sciences and the Medal of Honor for Merit in Agricultural Innovation 2018 and 2023; and was an Affiliate Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences from 2007 to 2012, currently being an Alumni Affiliate Member. Dr. Luciano is the founder of the open value network NANICOS and also of several initiatives/social media channels such as NanoBioFabLab, NanoConexão, and NanoEscola. He is also the creator and coordinator of the Digital Congress on Nanobiotechnology and Bioengineering, which in its six editions held so far has had about 25,000 registered participants from all Brazilian states and 50 other countries. He also participated in startups
