Ítalo Moraes Rocha Guedes is an agronomist and researcher at Embrapa Vegetables since 2008, working primarily with protected cultivation, mineral nutrition of vegetables, soil organic matter management, soilless systems, and irrigation/fertigation under Cerrado conditions. Throughout his career, he has participated in and led projects on no-tillage vegetable production, the use of treated domestic effluents, rational water management, semi-hydroponic systems, and vertical farming, with emphasis on resource-use efficiency and adaptation to climate change. He served as Deputy Head of Research and Development at Embrapa Vegetables (20132017), chaired the Internal Technical Committee and coordinated the Corporate Vegetable Portfolio (from 2019 onward), in addition to overseeing the Controlled Environment Agriculture Laboratory. He also works in digital agriculture, integrating IoT, computer vision, digital twins, and artificial intelligence algorithms into the management of cultivation systems. In 2025, he received the Brazil Hydroponics Award (Researcher category) and the Brasília Agronomic Merit Commendation. He holds a degree in Agronomy from UFPB (1999), a masters and a doctorate from UFV (2002, 2008), and an MBA in Project Management from ESALQ/USP (2021). He is also a science communicator, author of the blog Geófagos, and creator of the YouTube channel O Agrônomo Vertical, dedicated to modern horticulture and controlled-environment agriculture.
