Jayme Garcia Arnal Barbedo holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (1998), a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Campinas (Unicamp) (2001), and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the same institution (2004). He worked at CPqD in Campinas from 2004 to 2005, contributing to studies that helped define the Brazilian standard for Digital TV. He completed postdoctoral research at Harvard University (Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA) between 2006 and 2007, and at the University of Victoria (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada) between 2008 and 2009. From 2005 to 2011, he served as a collaborating researcher at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (FEEC) at Unicamp, working on various digital audio processing problems and supervising two master's students. Since 2011, he has been a researcher at the Digital Agriculture unit (Campinas, SP) of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa). He has published over 70 journal articles, with more than 7,700 citations (Google Citations). He is an associate editor of three international journals: Computers and Electronics in Agriculture, European Journal of Plant Pathology, and Agronomy (MDPI). His main research areas include: the application of image processing and artificial intelligence for plant disease recognition; the use of hyperspectral imaging for detecting diseases and toxins in grains and plants; and the use of drones for monitoring cattle in the field, among others.
